Pairing

Android mode

  • Press Start to turn on controller
  • Press Pair (unlabled button at the back of the controller) for 3s to enter pairing mode

Different pairing modes:

  • Xinput pairing mode: press X + Start
    • Sometimes called Windows pairing mode

If pairing mode is activated the LED lights on the front-facing edge (between the analog sticks) continuously blinks

Firmware update

8BitDo Firmware Updater Linux

  • GitHub
  • A script for setting up and running the 8BitDo Firmware Updater Tool on Linux.
  • Uses wine to run the official 8bitdo firmware-updater
  • Worked !

Install:

git clone https://github.com/soaresluciano/8BitDoFirmwareUpdaterLinux
cd 8BitDoFirmwareUpdaterLinux
./setup.sh

Usage:

  • Start with ~/.local/share/8bitdo-updater/launch-8bitdo-updater.sh
  • Enter controller Device Boot Mode
    • Connect the controller via USB while holding L + R buttons to enter boot mode.
    • The orange LED will start blinking, indicating the controller is in boot mode and ready for firmware updates.

    • tfdr: Start + Select + L + R for 5 to 8 seconds
    • Unfortunatly, the controller ends up
